Anzac

Michael and I are like chalk and cheese in most things but occasionally we are in the same boat and that makes life ridiculously easier.
When I was a kid Anzac day was a big deal, same for Michael. We were both raised by single mothers with our Grandad's as big influences in our lives. Grandad's who both served in WWII and in their own ways taught Michael and I the importance of remembering and being grateful.
As our boys get older were teaching them more about the big wide world and after both of us telling the boys some of our Grandad's stories something hit me. I can't imagine being married to someone who wasn't as passionate about Anzac day as I was. I couldn't imagine teaching the boys by myself about something so important. I would never have put Anzac day on my list of deal breakers, but there you go it is.

Tooth Time

Yesterday my big boy lost his first tooth. I was so excited for him I instantly took a photo posted it on instagram then called Michael and my mum. I really was that excited!
So last night we put it under his pillow for the tooth fairy. I planned to sneak in his room before bed and swap his tooth for some shiny coins but Will woke up before I had gone to bed and I ended up going to bed with a feeding cranky baby and completely forgot about putting on my tooth fairy wings. 5am I woke up in a sweat, tooth fairy still hadn't been! Close call considering Charlie is up at 6am. I snuck in did the deed and snuck out. The boy didn't even stir. Success!
Now because I am new to this I don't really know what to do next. Do I keep the tooth ? (That seems kinda gross) Does it go in the bin? How much does the tooth fairy bring? I gave him $2, I've no idea what the going rate actually is. Parenthood really does throw new things at you all the time.

This Tooth Fairy job is hard! What's your tips for a new tooth fairy?

Spoilt

Last week Michael and I had this conversation:

Then yesterday I rolled out this beauty:

I don't often ask to spend money, I usually just spend, when I do ask, he doesn't often say no.
I really am a spoilt housewife. Thanks babe.

If you'd like to buy a fun interactive rug like I did go here. As for asking your hubby first well I'll leave that up to you to decide.

Weekend Bliss

This weekend was the last before school started again and I planned to take full advantage of not having to be anywhere and having all my boys together. We spent some time at the park, we watched some movies and we hung out.

My poor little boy is sick thanks to Charlie. It really shows you who Charlie loves, the only person who he has gotten sick is William, must be all those big cuddles he gives him.

I made this kick ass salad roast pumpkin, feta, spinach and balsamic vinegar. Yum.

Friday night the boys had a 'camp out' in the lounge room and they slept til 8am for the first time for the holidays. Typical just when school is about to start again.

And William hung out with Elmo. As you do.

We had Sunday brunch at sizzler then wandered through the shops picking up a few things and trying to pick a new doona cover before we headed home for a quiet afternoon. Blissful. Really Blissful.

3 Months

My gorgeous boy is getting bigger. Slowly.
He has finally discovered he has these funny things hanging off his play mat and quite enjoys playing with them, this has made my life so much easier. Just a few times a day he will happily play on his mat for 15 minutes or so. Every day gets a little easier, thank heavens.
Most days he has a top up of formula before bed which gives me time to put the other boys to bed and clean the kitchen, maybe even fold some washing. it's nice to have a routine even if it is only one time of the day.

He has made himself quite at home in our family, it's weird to think of 'us' without him.

See his 2 month pictures here.

Cake Lady

You see this chic? She decided she should make Jack a late birthday cake which involved ganache and ready to roll icing and rulers and stuff I never thought had anything to do with cake, luckily its her not me  who decorates wedding cakes as gifts for the married couple. Yep gifts. If she wasn't my sister I'd want her to be my friend.

She sat there for five hours while small people swarmed around her poking at cake and asking if they could have some noooow.

Do you see that? That's layers of chocolate ganache in between the chocolate cake, so freaking tasty. She really is amazing this lady.

What a weekend

Easter. Packed full of family, love, fun, chocolate and more love. One of the best weekends ever.
I need to see my sister more often, I don't think anyone else 'gets' you like a sibling does. They know all your stories and have your best interests at heart.  Spending time with my sister makes me so glad my boys will have brothers to lean on when they need to and pick each other up. Built in mates for life.

So much love. If that's all that Easter means to my boys then I'll be happy.

Birthday Boy!

And just like that, I'm mother to a seven year old. Thursday was Jack's birthday, right in the middle of the school holidays so party wont be until school goes back. Sorry about that kid.

Birthday boy opening his pressies.

Just a few things to open in the morning. he looked a bit upset after opening clothes and little things, he didn't know the fun that was to come later.

Seven with his first watch. He's been telling us every 2 minutes what the time is, not always correctly.

I sent Dad out to do something and he brought home part one of the birthday surprise. A new bike. He keeps asking if he can ride his BMX, not his bike. Its far to cool to be called a bike. Silly mum.

As part of his birthday present last year he got his very own room and his new bed, but we hadn't gotten much further than that, and it was very boring and empty in there, apart from the puzzle on the floor. So when Dad  brought home the BMX I 'suggested' he go to the BMX track to give it a go. Bring on stage two of the surprise.

Ta-Da! Finally a chair for his desk, a new bedspread, a cute guitar pillow, a bean bag and tiny little rug which fits perfectly. Looks a bit more like a bedroom less like a temporary dump for your stuff.

And the best bit-his very own gate to provide hours of privacy, and also means he cant blame his little brothers for the mess in his room.

A quick knocked up cake the night before, proper cake will be for his party.

After cake we headed off for a few hours at the water park, favourite dinner and a date at the movies with his mumma and James to see The Lorax. Not a bad way to spend your 7tth birthday!

Happy Birthday to my big boy, love you to the moon and back.

Weekend Love

Inspired by Beth from Baby Mac who always makes me jealous by her weekend visits from family and the gorgeous house she preps before they arrive. This weekend is our turn!
My gorgeous sister and I seem to moving further and further away from each other, I thought Mackay to Sydney was far enough but this January her and her man buggered off back to Melbourne. Luckily they love us enough to fly up for Easter because we haven't seen them since last Easter and we've added an extra kid to the mix since then!

Unlike Beth these flowers are not from my garden they were $12 love from Coles.

Fridge full of food but no booze because who would let the breast feeding lady pick the booze? I'll leave it to those who will be drinking it!

So bring on a few days of family fun, hangover breakfasts, too many chocolates, a trip or two to the beach  and lots of laughs and love. Bring. It. On.

April fools

Happy April fools day!
Last year I tricked my boys with some afternoon tea this year I thought it was time I stepped it up a notch. So after checking out this website I wanted to make everything!

This is what I served up today. Eggs on toasted home made bread and juice, right?
Wrong! This is cake 'toast' with white chocolate 'eggs' with yellow M&M 'yolks' and jelly 'juice'.

I love how Jack is poking his egg, it was cold straight from the fridge, not exactly what you expect from your eggs.

Charlie is too little to get it so he was trying to figure out what was wrong with his straw, sorry kid!

What the hell is this? I was cracking up all morning, I was never into April fools tricks as  kid but now I have my own kids its great to be able to do these things with them. I hope they remember this sort of thing when they are all grown up.

Luckily they didn't throw any tantrums and were pretty happy with their funny breakfast. Although none of them finished everything on their plates and asked for some yogurt instead. Poor kids aren't used to so much sugar, especially all at one time.

After breakfast we headed off the beach for a few hours so they could wear off some of the sugar. Seriously the best April fools day ever.
