House Swap

A couple of weeks ago we had a cyclone coming. To stop the house ending up looking like Dorothy's from The Wizard of Oz we decided at dinner time to move the house around, just until  the cyclone had been and gone but we loved it so much we decided to keep it this way permanently.  Our house is a very odd shape and I've struggled with where to put stuff and how to make it work for us, pretty unsuccessfully so far.

Before our lounge room was right at the front of the house right next to the kitchen.

Our playroom was at the opposite end of our living area. To be honest it wasn't fabulous but we didn't really think we had much option being a rental.

So we swapped the two areas around, and I have to say I love it.

!

Its a bit cosy and lovely. Less open and not right at the front of the house so I don't have the neighbourhood kids starring at me daily while I'm feeding Aurelia, always a bonus!

I'm so in love with the playroom, its so open and bright and having a couple of couches for them to hang out on has been a plus as far as they are concerned.

The kids absolutely did well out the swap. I've been found hanging out in that armchair when they are watching yet another episode of Peppa Pig.

Did you spy the sleeping baby? Bless her for letting me tidy up to take some photos!

Pinterest Love

True story.

I read this yesterday and conversations flashed in front of my eyes. I sent this to Michael and he sent me a one word message 'Agreed" Sorry about that.

If I didn't spend so much time on Pinterest I would get a whole lot more blogging done. Actually I think I'd probably get a whole lot more done full stop. I find myself  browsing through things at 3am while I'm feeding Will then at 4am when he's asleep I'm still flicking through things on my phone. Dangerous business but I find it very calming looking at all these crazy ideas and gorgeous things.

Butcher block counter tops
Seriously how cute is this kitchen

This bathmat turns red when wet. For when you want to freak out family members, roommates, etc.
I'm buying this bath mat for my boys just to see their reaction, it would be so worth it!

Anything that's called Better Than Sex has to be a good cake right?

Are you a pinterest hopeless like me or do you know better and stay away?

Bed Love

This is Jack's cool new bed.
My darling Michael spent 4 hours putting this bad boy together. He told me if I bought any more flat pack he would divorce me. Sorry about that hun.
I'd love to say we've unpacked all of Jack's stuff and there is now things on his shelves and in the draws but that would  be a complete lie.
Charlie loves Jack's room so next week I am going to get Jack a baby gate for his room so he can have his lego/books/things on and in his desk without Charlie 'playing' with it all.  Now all he needs is a chair for that desk, he's so excited to do his homework in there instead of having to sit at the dining table. He should have been an only child this one!

My place and yours

Although this is the boys having their afternoon tea this is also where we have dinner. Very boring I know, nothing can live on our table as it would get broken/destroyed by the cyclone that we call our youngest child. I have also almost scrubbed the lacquer off our table. I am hoping by Christmas we have a new dining table and chairs, nothing crazy or fancy just something that matches!

Lounge Room~Before and After

Now I realise that there are far more important things going on in the world at the moment and I'm struggling to drag myself away from the updates and news its unfathomable to me. BUT One of my 20 to do in 2011 was to decorate the house and I'm making a start by rearranging our lounge room, although its not technically decorating it made me feel better.
For Christmas I bought the boys their own little lounges and they love them, I knew they would only problem is I didn't really think about where they would go or how they would fit in the room (talk about retail coma) and as we have three door ways 2 sets of windows and a TV that cant be moved I was pretty limited.

Before:

From the hallway towards the corner.

After:

The view from the hallway.

from the kitchen, the boys enjoying the fruits of my labor!

From the front door.

Although it makes the room feel smaller, we seem to fit better. The baby gate isn't quite so accessible to Charlie and we don't have a corner dumping ground. Always a good thing!
later in the year I'm going to do a bedroom re arrange.. Jack turns six in April and we've decided he gets his own room. So trouble one (James) and trouble two (Charlie) will be in together, I know I will be kicking myself when we do it, but Jack needs it.

More Pretties!

I did say  last week I have become all about making the house prettier, well here is my purchase for today. I am becoming such a miners wife. Spend spend spend!

Our lounge room is mostly brown and green so when I saw this I couldn't resist. Every clock we own has been damaged due to moving so it will be nice not to have to check my phone/the austar box/the microwave to know the time!

Best brand name I think I've ever seen.

Oh pretty...

   (shop)

Admit to me these are the coolest bookends you've ever seen. I had a very hard time stopping myself from buying them or these. Or the whole shop really.
I am all about making the house beautiful lately. I want to shop shop shop. So expect a few more of these posts.

Toilet Art

I bet you read the title of this post and thought twice about reading didn't you? I promise no mention of poop or anything gross, well not to gross anyway.

Now that Jack can read like a machine and James remembers what things say I thought this was a perfect addition to our toilet. Whether or not it will help its a different story, but I have to try something.
If I could get one that said 'Pee straight into the water not all over the room or I am going to have a break down. Love mum' then I would, but I guess until Charlie is Jack's age I'm stuck cleaning the floor/toilet/walls everyday.

I have to say I am very impressed with my efforts, I have no patience for fiddly things, (sewing, knitting, mosaic, you get the picture) and usually if its not happening quick enough I get very frustrated and do it much quicker than I should, and things don't work the way there meant to.
I had a slight drama with the Y but I fixed it and you can't even tell it used to be in two pieces!

It's not huge but it makes a very boring room just a little more interesting, I'm tempted to get a bird cage or flower arangement but I'm not sure how long we'll be here. Maybe one day when were settled and own our house.
